That's a lie. Blatant too.
I know nothing about Calvin Coolidge.

If BK said he ran for 2 terms, that could certainly mean one term in office as Vice-President and one as President IMO. Perhaps he also ran for President another time and lost (as I said I dont know, its merely a possibility) which could mean that he ran for 2 terms as President but only served one term. As a lawyer, you should understand the imprecision of language.

You can certainly label his reversal as to what he meant bull****. Thats your opinion as to what you believe he meant but unless you have evidence to support that belief (perhaps you read minds) then it's not a lie, and certainly not a blatant one.

I did not edit when called out on it. I edited my post a few minutes after I posted, before the debacle began, it was because I had written bad English, wrong tense I think.

I remembered wrong. Simple as that. Which I acknowledged. My mistake was to get all winded up because of the respectless treatment I got because of a simple mistake. If I had been wise, I would just have explained myself and let it go. I did not. I said things in the following discussion I shouldn't have. I apologize for that. I also apologize for being wrong, it was not my intention to wrongly accuse Asher of anything.

When that is said, I am tired of being verbally abused by Asher in every second thread I visit. This time I started it, and I have nothing to say in my defence on that matter. But the last months I have been on the receiving end of all too much crap from him; I've been called a racist(of all things), and idiot and so on. And now a liar. I have been patient, but I feel it's gone too far, for too long now. I expect that to change.

As for reading comprehension, well, I am no native in English, so I often fail to see the nuances. I'm trying though.

No. It was obviously a lie. He confirmed it wasn't a simply misunderstanding when tried the whole, I meant the VP terms. Because he was saying Coolidge was a great President and citing his approval rating after running for 2 terms. Cooledge did not run for a 2nd term.

As he pledges to be a history major and makes history errors all the time. Either he is blatently lying or horribly incompetent. I think he's smarter than you do apparently.

              SpenseH,

the problem with Ben isn't that he disagrees. It's that he refuses to acknowledge facts, and when confronted with sources and simple logic, he will ignore most of the response to cherry pick one tangential point to run with, and then pretend that proves what he was originally talking about all along.

BTW, raw intelligence data can be wildly wrong also. That's why such things need to be vetted, analyzed, etc.

This certainly explains the massive failure in US foreign policy and intelligence over the past few decades.

FWIW, it's my understanding that those positions are not well-compensated at all. At least that's the case in Canada when CSIS was desperate to recruit CS grads for analyst positions. They need to pay those people more if they want to attract top-tier talent.

As to BK, I guess the wealth of opinions 'suggests a trend' but I believe that the best course of action is to ignore the posts if you feel that way. If it's irritating to view posts that you dont want to in threads with an interesting discussion, how much worse is it when it becomes the sole topic?

                        Predictable, Asher. Predictable...

                        ...

I too missed the drama w/Nikolai last night. Whatever.

Calling someone a liar is harsh, yes. I use that term very, very rarely. I can't actually recall using it here.

But sometimes people lie. Sometimes people "misremember" "misconstrue" etc. so much that a clear pattern emerges. The resulting loss of respect is not the fault of others.

It's only predictable because it is blindingly obvious.

I cant speak to CSIS since I worked in the business before it was in place and left around the time of it's formation. From what I saw, it looked like it was gonna be a big bureaucratic cluster**** though.
