I'm still not sure you comprehend this: Canada doesn't care about IIHF tournaments. That's because we have a real hockey league -- the NHL. The IIHF coincides with real hockey, the NHL playoffs.
Very few people watch the IIHF games here. If it's big in Russia and you think it's big everywhere else, it's not. IIHFs are actually LESS important than "friendlies". They're more of a humourous distraction for people whose NHL teams were eliminated.
