  • The "Ignore" Feature

No names please (I'd like the thread to stay open more than a second or two).

NOTE: If you have Wezil on "Ignore" now would be a good time to rectify that.

Do you use it and how much?

I like the option of being able to ignore but I don't like to use it. I find very few people to be so insufferable that I just can't bear to see their posts and I've never had more than 1 or 2 people on "ignore" at any one time.

    How about you?

I have one poster on ignore, but it is useless because he says things so mind-numbingly stupid he gets quoted anyway.

I have so far refrained from using it, ever. Been tempted many times, though.

That is actually another good reason not to use it. It won't always work anyway.

I put a poster on the list after he posted a page long message of the same phrase over and over... I couldn't be bothered scrolling through that kind of spam.

          Ditto.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I enjoy the mind numbingly stupid posts. They are usually good for a laugh and I feel no compulsion to respond to them.

Seems like I used it once, but not for long and I can't remember for whom. Now I don't use it because I have no problem scrolling past certain posters' posts, and if it's part of a long back and forth, I typically wind up looking at it anyway, to try to get some kind of context for the bat**** insane parts.

Never use it. There are certain people I tend to not pay attention to, but I don't have anyone formally on ignore.

Never used it (except when tricked by LS). I don't see any point to an ignore feature on a site like this. Flood control takes care of the main problem. There are not posters consistently posting things that are outrageously not-work-safe (something the mods/rules have been good at dealing with).

A tiny bit of self-control, and/or a healthy sense of humor (able to laugh off stupid stuff) does the trick much better than ignore.

I have 16 people right now. It's amazing how much nicer the forum is.
