The 2.5-litre engine is known for head gasket failures. It’s a very common problem, but so far, it appears Subaru has been unwilling to acknowledge it as a design flaw. However, it seems this mainly affects non-turbo engines.

Consumer Reports also notes transmission issues in both turbo and non-turbo Imprezas. While I couldn’t find any specific information online, my guess is that failed clutches and gearboxes caused by “over-enthusiastic” driving could be the source of these complaints.

Life's easy when all you do is make **** up.

Forget the "fits 3 adults" criterion.

        That's odd.

        (Latest I could find quickly)

Consumer Reports lists the Forrester is the 2nd least reliable small SUV in their list, with only the Kia Sportage being worse.

"Best" and "Most Reliable" are also not synonyms.

          On, Asher you poor sod.

That was two, count it TWO, generations ago.

That's 2006 Asher. Look at 2008 and 2009. In 2008 it tied and in 2009 it was runner up (beat by the RAV4 by just 1 point).

You're moving the ****ing goalposts, sleazy little ****...

We're talking about the very famous GASKET ISSUES of the IMPREZA MODELS which impacted PRIOR GENERATIONS. The new generations are TOO NEW to say if they're affected, but they have since been redesigned.

The FACT is, it was a major problem for many, many years and Subaru never owned up to the systematic issues resulting from a design flaw.

Further still, the FACT is this affected NON-TURBO engines -- as I said -- and not TURBO engines like you said.

The FACT is you were wrong and you think moving the goalposts is going to trick people and mask that.

Two issues: Get off this kick on "most reliable car 1 year old". Virtually every car is exceptionally reliable in the 1st year, and that's all under warranty anyway. What's more important is what happens after warranty (eg, will the cars systematically fail due to a design flaw in the gaskets costing thousands of dollars to repair?).

Second, if you're going to claim it, source it. You're constantly wrong, so you have no cred. I understand they did rank it over the Rav4 in their "picks", which doesn't make a quantitative claim about its reliability for very obvious reasons (it's the 2009 model, how would they know?).

Are you no longer talking about reliability again, and moving the goalposts?

In any event, ignoring Asher and his inability to google, if you want an adult car which is larger then a subcompact in your price range with AWD I'd pick the Subaru Legacy.

Ha! That's rich, coming from Mr. Nuguyen.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Is it a "common South Vietnamese name"? Um, no.

Or this one Surname website: http://www.ancestry.com/facts/NUGUYE...xpectancy.ashx

Or just look at the numerous listings for people with the surname Nuguyen such as this actress: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0637841/

Yes, Nguyen is more common but there were at least five Nuguyen families in my high school making it the second most common Vietnamese last name in the school where 20% of the students were Vietnamese.

That's the only person with the name Nuguyen in the entire IMDB database.

Number with last name Nguyen: Over 500.
