I can't tell if you three are being serious. Is it really not legit to expect someone to dress up if I make the interview in McDonalds? I always thought location only mattered in real estate, and when doing serious interviews, it's a serious fauxpaws to not match the interviewer's attire, even if it is an unpaid, blow me hard position. Just to be clear I am an important person who rarely does not wear good clothes, and I abhor Old Navy and restaurants provide suggested tip amounts on the tab. Regardless I'm about to cut him loose, since he is starting to talk about ordering food: angry:

Your interview has gone on for TWO HOURS in MCDONALDS for an INTERN POSITION?
Okay, now I'm starting to wonder about you, Wiggie.
And yes, interview location matters. You send a signal to the interviewee how to dress based on the location.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Ooooh. You're not hiring him FOR McDonald's? Doesn't matter. Sunday. AT McDonald's.
You're lucky he didn't come in wearing biking spandex.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

This is your blunder to hold the interview somewhere unprofessional. Ignore what he's wearing because that was a result of your choice of location, and listen to what he's been saying. That should be the basis on which you make your decision. If you'd had the interview at the Ritz and he'd turned up like that then he's just dumb, but the day and location of the interview does not suggest that this is something to dress up for. You're the most out-of-place there because you're not wearing sneakers.

Okay, point taken. I unleashed him and told him he had the job, which is probably true since I hate interviewing people. I was sued once for interviewing a black guy in a KFC. I've got to do one more tomorrow at a coffee house. I assume that's khakis or bust?

Next time, hold the interview in a steak house, or at least a restaurant where PEOPLE COME TO BRING YOU FOOD, if you want someone to dress up for the interview.
Could that be anymore forward stating someone needs to eat meat?
But, eating meat is not as bad as some folks make it out to be.

True. If I got a message to appear for a job interview at McD's, it would not occur to be to put on a business suit. He's dressed appropriately for McD's; you aren't.
And why aren't you interviewing him at your place of business? It'd be nice for him to see where he's going to be working...er...interning.
