I don't think I'd be able to bring my scotch with me.

That, and it's a crime to love my partner there. Good luck getting him immigrated with me, too...

The letter I got also states I had exceptional performance and this decision was in no way performance-based, but 100% financial -- this will be handy for future job applications. They also mentioned they will be more than happy to provide written and phone references.
          Good news. Good luck.

Ouch, sorry to hear that man. But it sounds like you fetched up with a fair bit of wind in your parachute, and plenty of goodwill to your name - even if they couldn't afford to keep a worker of your quality on their payroll.

Good luck to you, there's always something out there for you.

So in the past couple days I've already seen some form of traction:

                    - 1 interview request for a consulting company, but based in Waterloo (this would've been nice 2.5 years ago, but not now)
                    - 1 recruiter pushing me for a job in Bermuda(!) as a senior software developer
                    - 1 recruiter pushing me for a job in Scarborough (a Toronto suburb) dealing with emerging technologies...might be a fit for this one.

                    • Another update...I've got an interview tomorrow(!) already. The title is "Senior Technologist", a jack-of-all-trades kind of thing...very promising.

                      • I figured a guy with technical skills and high level of intelligence wouldn't be out of work for too long.

Well it is a rough old time...I am not currently on a project either and things are looking a bit quiet. My company has decided to ride it out for now being relatively small and doesn't want to lay off skilled people such as myself only to have to attempt to replace them all a year or so down the line (which would be very, very difficult to do!). You've not been quite so lucky. Even if I had stayed in my previous job, site closure was announced last year anyway so I'd have been out of a job soon enough anyway. It's a rough old time alas...as long as you can keep yourself going for a bit you'll be fine. And you never know, you might find another job quite quickly. I know that the prognosis is not good in the short term though

                          • Half of me wants to say HA HA Asher is unemployed and I'm not plus I make/made more then him! While the other half wants to be decent and say that's to bad. It's a quandary. The big problem is I'm way over paid compared to the junior staff and I don't have my principle yet so I'm really worried I'll get laid off. Yet another quandary.
