I probably would've signed it anyway as non-competes are pretty worthless in my situation. They wouldn't bother doing anything about it, I'm pretty sure.

Leaving you your access cards would speak volumes in the States. In my line of work, when your accounts are disabled, your access cards are seized, and you are leaving.

I took my agreement to a lawyer before signing it. I knew I wasn't in a good emotional space when they pushed it under my nose.

I was level-headed and sane during the process. Mainly because I figured it out the night before, so I could sleep on it and had warning.

It did hurt in that respect until I discovered it was a simple "who is on a project and making money right now?" question. I don't think they put too much personal thought in this. Even on Friday I got an email from the same HR person who laid me off telling me she assigned me a new career coach for the year since my last one left the company. I think they had some management meeting over the weekend and panicked over the financials and got rid of the people who are almost done their projects or not on any at all, as there's little work to do in the future.

Something similar happened to me once. A "clear the bench" layoff got me at the margin. I was one of 2 in the Washington office (w/3000 total people). They were after the 55 Dallas people (w/2000 total people). My seniors called and said we'll have him on project within two weeks. All in vain. I didn't feel that little pang of emptiness at not making the cut. There was no cut. Again, good luck.

I was fired from a job in november 12, we worked with the USA and the American economic crisis affected us badly.
I had only worked there for around 7 months, since april 18, and they gave me money equivalent to three months and a half of work.

I surprised me since I expected much less money. I rested for two weeks, and then I started looking for a new job, I got lucky.

Do the same, relax for a couple of weeks. Don't worry if you feel sad, it is almsot impossible to avoid being down for a few days after being fired. I was a little depressed and I only worked there for 7 months. It is much worse if you worked there for years.
