    Ah, I forgot about that.

    I do find that sickening.

Clubbing seals ---> Man's dominance over animals
Pit bulls ---> animal's dominance over man

We know how it's done up North.

It can be to the people who just think it's a bunch of people violently killing cute little seals.

The reality is, population control is a necessity for the seal population for a sustained eco system. Additionally, the Hakapik is still the most humane way to kill a seal as they die pretty much instantly. There have been many studies on this by veterinarian scientists from the US and Canada that all corroborate the findings.

Animal cullings are necessary in many parts of the world. In many ways, it is far less humane to hunt with guns as it typically wounds the animal so it suffers before it dies, rather than instant death.

We have population control for my pet cats: they are all fixed. It is not possible to go fix the seal population annually.

I do not think you comprehend the reasons for the seal hunt. It is not for fun.

As I already pointed out, Family Guy's formula is to reference past cultural events, not current events. Clearly, that's very different.

It's not at all fun. The hunt is very heavily regulated and monitored, there are very specific ways the seals must be approached and killed that is very clinical. The only benefit the hunters get out of this is the ability to sell the pelts afterwards, though the market for that isn't very large these days.

When I thought of the image of clubbing a seal, I always thought of repeated blows to the animal before it died.

That's because that's what PETA and Greenpeace and other groups want you to believe.

They ignore the studies from the veterinarian medical associations which conclude it is a humane way to cull the population, and they also ignore the heavy government regulation involved. Even the hakapiks themselves are very specifically regulated in terms of design and size.

Jesus Christ, people. Would you feel better about clubbing baby seals if we ate them afterward?

Yes. It's the reason I like deer hunting.

Spectacular. And feel free to pleasure yourself with the parts of the deer you don't eat.

The seals don't go to waste. By law, all seal carcasses must be landed. They're then used in a variety of ways, from food to fur sources -- it's been law for decades.
