  • Uhhh...comment from the gallery...it didn't look to me like he was defending them at all. Merely pointing out your typical lack of "fair and balanced" - you know...attacking "those guys" for doing the very same thing "your side" does too.

But...it's convenient to ignore that, I know. Please, carry on! Your response was well timed and utterly predictable! ROCK!

    • My point, Dino, is clearly that you're a hack with absolutely no credibility. If you believe that tax issues are such a big deal, where was your whining about McCain and Palin?

For the record, I think most people make mistakes (intentional or otherwise) on their taxes (as the article points out, a majority of audits bring up errors) Republican or Democrat, rich or poor. It's a problem, and it should be addressed (by repaying back taxes). But it's neither partisan nor a dis-qualifier.

And you are clearly a pot.

        • I've been consistent. You haven't. Where was your whining about McCain and, particularly, Palin?

            • Yes. Because we all remember your whining about McCain and Palin's tax issues.

              • Considering I...

                a) Didn't know about McCain and Palin's tax issues until after they were already defeated.

                and...

                b) Have never said that tax problems are an absolute deal breaker for potential federal officials.

... I don't really understand how you're going to "get" me on this. You're really just making yourself look like a pissy hack who can't take it when someone laughs at the foibles of his leader.

                • Given the shear number of times this has happened by now, I think we're well beyond simply accusing only the vetters of incompetence don't you?
Possibly, but another possibility exists: a large percentage of those who are subjected to this sort of scrutiny crumble. That, in turn, suggests either that the vetting process is too strict, or that the political class in this country is a bunch of cheating bastards. I'm inclined to go with option 2. Option 1 is then true as well, but for different reasons.

As for your shot at those terrible taxing Dems, whatever. I'm up for closing loopholes along with allowing the top marginal rates to lapse back to pre-Bush levels. Walking, chewing gum and all that you know...

                  • Was anyone expecting the dems to be more pure and honest than the republicans? Obamas main problem is that he has to choose from people in one of the 2 parties. Or Wall Street.

                    • Actually, I was hoping that they would be, at least at first, slightly more so, yes. Slightly. And only at first.

Better than the other guys was the hope. That's not exactly setting the bar high.

                      • Honestly i'm far more annoyed that someone can deduct $20,000 for baseball tickets. That's a deduction that absolutely should go away... 'entertain clients', bah humbug. Entertain them at home over a home-cooked meal, if you want, but baseball games are just a cheap way to get a deduction and watch a baseball game.

                        • The dems are only going to tow the line while Obama popularity stays high. IF that long... I think the majority of dems in congress, etc., hate him for his few populist actions.

Really? I'm pretty sure you were calling for Geithner's head over his tax issues.

Except I wasn't responding to someone laughing at the foibles of Obama. I was responding to Dino's "Democrats don't pay taxes" horse****.

Normal people would see that as a joke justified by the regularity of this issue coming up rather than a serious statement.

                              • 1. I'm not sure how ignorance is supposed to be a defense here. If tax problems are a serious, disqualifying barrier to high office, the fact that the right wing blogs that you read make note of Democrats' problems and not (more prominent) Republicans' problems isn't a persuasive argument.

                                2. If this is a trivial issue that passes for a joke, by definition it doesn't make sense to call for resignations or insist that this points to serious competence issues. You can't have it both ways.
