Analog TV takes up a massive amount of bandwidth on the cable lines. You can fit 3 HDTV channels in 1 analog TV channel.

Analog TV does need to go for us to finish the transition...there's not enough space for the both of them.

Especially since I barely watch SDTV anymore after having HD.

I have cable, and I've requested two coupons.

                      Why?

If you have cable, this doesn't affect you.

AFAIK, if you dont use a cable converter box it does.

I ordered two coupons. I'll be buggered if I'll pay one more extra cent to the ****ing cable monopolies for boxes for TV's my kids watch occasionally. ****, I hate cable tv and the corrupt laws that allow such crap. I cant get FIOS at home (yet), I'm not thrilled by satellite, but finally, finally, ATT is gonna roll out TV through the phone lines in B'Ham, hopefully some time soon.

I thought the transition was going well, so this quote doesn't work.

Rather, all of the busybodies are now trying to get a piece of the action.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Nope ... this only affects OTA. Cable companies will switch over whenever they want, before or after - in Chicago they've already switched (nearly a year now), and so you can't get basically anything (maybe a few local channels) without a converter box.

There was a news article a while back on Engadget that said the cable companies were stopping converting to digital for the next few months so to avoid confusion or problems with the OTA changeover.

I would guess Che asked for his two coupons either in case there was a problem with money and he gave up on cable, or out of some communist moral stance (screwing with the government), or both...

Start broadcasting in HD and give a couple of months for the pensioners to buy their converters.
