I'm pretty sure not giving it back could get you in a bit of trouble with the cops.

It never really happened. Mark just posted a fanciful story about stolen money so we wouldn't talk about how the Greeks are burning down their country with riots.

I'm pretty sure you'd have to be stupid to get caught.

I would return it because it is the right thing to do.

Well the bills could be marked (banks tend to put dye packs in bags of stolen bills).

Yeah you'd definitely have to wash it, and since buying something valuable with the marked bills can be traced back to you, swapping it anonymously at a casino would be the best way to go.
                Unbelievable!

So the banks put something into the bags after they have been stolen?

Usually they're pre-placed in some bags in the vault and they make sure to give those ones to robbers.

Aside from marking, these days there is often a record of the serial numbers. If you get cash from a bank robbery it's idiotic to save it or even to spend it directly.

                      I'm wondering, isn't there a finders fee?

And yeah, it would be unfortunate, to return the 80000€, and then get charged, because 90000€ was stolen...

I would as well. If I was starving, I might rationalize taking a " small commission."

Also, as I understand it, in some locals, in some areas if you give the police money or valuables you found, and after some time and effort on the part of the police to find the owners no one claims it, the person who turned it in gets to keep it legaly.

Perhaps not in this case. The bag was found by 3 kids. Multiple persons involved + kids = difficult to keep a secret.

If you find the stash alone, it's a different story.
