  • KH,

As to our debate, I'll agree to disagree. I think we've both made our points, and I think that as much as we both think we have our side of the debate sealed up, plenty of people disagree (in your case, see, e.g., Rah)

    TCO,

Remind where I was advocating socialism?

    Boris,

If Rahm Emmanuel/Obama really did squeal on Blago, I actually gained a little respect for both of them.

With that said, I really, really, really think there is dirt on Obama that hasn't turned up yet. No one who gets big in Chicago politics does so cleanly.

It's easy to make accusations based on stereotypes, but I sincerely doubt every single Chicago-based pol is guilty of corruption.

        • I just hope Fitzgerald somehow becomes the independent prosecutor investigating Obama's ties to Blagojevich.

Fitzgerald stated today that Obama was in no way implicated with Blago's corruption.

Well, he's never held Chicago or Cook County office, and that's where the school of corruption is constantly in session. In short: He was out of the loop.

Of course, there's always the Occam's Razor explanation for Obama's apparent non-corruption. But of course that won't fly around here...

              • Patrick Fitzgerald’s charges against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich have drawn a chorus of shock and outrage.

But Barack Obama’s message man David Axelrod once staked out a much more nuanced position on Fitzgerald’s anti-corruption crusade.

In a 2005 op-ed, Axelrod argued, in effect, that trading political favors – including jobs – is part of the grease that makes government work.

He ripped Fitzgerald at the time for trying “to use the criminal code to enforce (his) vision” of “entirely remov(ing) politics from government.”

The piece in the Chicago Tribune was prompted by Fitzgerald’s indictment of aides to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley for conspiring to give city jobs as political favors. Daley was Axelrod’s client at the time.

                • Apparently the Illinois state legislature is prepared to rush through legislation that will strip Blago of the ability to appoint Obama's successor, just to forestall him from appointing himself to the seat.

They're also working on articles of impeachment.

                  • Gee, do you think the governor would sign such a bill into law?

                        • Just as Democrats and others in the past eight years have played watchdogs regarding Bush, his administration, and others tied to Bush, the next four or eight years the Republicans and others are now the watchdogs, providing scrutiny and testing of Obama and his administration.

Both sides have, and will, bring up false, trumped up "charges" along with other, more legitimate charges and accusations based on solid facts or evidence.

And so the cycle continues . . .
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.
