Your logic is weak. Under it, people shouldn't see it as a big deal if the Governor were to ALWAYS select their Senators (for full terms).

Seriously, the Senate is an important legislative body. It's not like the Canadian Senate (which is wholly appointed, but which does **** all).
I wouldn't want somebody sitting in it representing my state if I hadn't voted for him.

Personally I think we should go back to State Senates picking Senators.
But that's what is accepted in the US. The people get to vote for their Senators, but if their Senator has to quit or get ill, then they trust their Governor with filling that seat for the rest of the term or until the special election in a year.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Well, we don't vote for Cabinet members. Sometimes you trust in certain appointments when it makes sense.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The Cabinet is part of the administration. The Senate is an INDEPENDENT LEGISLATIVE BODY.

Since it's just to finish their current term, I don't have a problem with it. Especially when you consider the expense of a special state wide election. It's just not worth it. My tax dollars can be better spent. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Americans can barely get bothered to vote in non-Presidential years anyway. I can only imagine how many would come out for a special election and then how much it would cost.
Seems very little harm to have a Governor appoint someone until next election (whether it be a special election next November or when the term ends).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. composed of individual representatives who are supposed to exercise independent judgment
You mean when an individual representative who votes with their party only 90% of the time is considered to be some sort of maverick?
I would think that Condi Rice has been more powerful than Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming.
Point being in some areas Americans accept appointments. One being to fill out a Senator's term either until a special election or until that term is up. Americans also accept appointments of Supreme Court Justices and in the Northeast (at least), state Supreme Court Judges (I find voting for judges to be utterly strange).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
