As for whether they are a guilty pleasure, given that their greatest hits album is the best selling album of all time (or was the last time I checked) and their music is enjoyed and played by rock, pop, and country people, I think it is hard to say they are a guilty pleasure.

The Smiths are not a guilty pleasure...in fact they are one of the cornerstones of modern British music. And yeah, their lyrics could be a bit "ambiguous" at times. The lyric "A boy in the bush is worth two in the hand"? Hmmm
      Speaking of Erith:

Behind Blue Eyes by The Who

'cause sometimes I'm just in the mood.

Once again, classic songs by classic bands aren't really guilty pleasures...

I know Every Breath You Take is about stalking an ex-lover, or stalking in general. Not sure about Behind Blue Eyes. Doesn't change the fact that they are classic songs by classic bands.

Besides, I like music because it entertains me/moves me in some fashion, if I get meaning from it or whatever, that's just a bonus. But I understand other people have more developed taste than I do.

On topic, I enjoy many songs by Live, and some by The Presidents of the United States of America. That's some guilty pleasure.

                            Lyrics go:

Now, I've had enough, go on, **** off, get stuffed."

I cant have any guilty-pleasure songs. If I like something, I cant be guilty over it because I dont give a **** what anyone else thinks about it.

The Smiths are ****e, they should have been put down after their first single.
