The headmaster of our local school has released a letter to all parents to watch out for a known (previously convicted) man who has been seen trying to lurk children into his car. We try to drive our kids from school as often as we can, but sometimes they have to bicycle.
Today my youngest daughter (7 years old) was riding home alone on her bicycle when a red car passed her and turned to stop on a parking nearby. A man jumped out and called to her, asking if she wanted a ride. When she ignored him, as we had instructed her to do, he ran after her and tried to snatch her from the bike. She was riding as fast as she could, and she barely got away. He was only half a meter from her, reaching out his arms to catch her.
If he actually does something, the police knows who he is and will catch him immediately, but so far he hasn't done anything illegal.
Perhaps I should get gas and balls for my paintball marker, start to patrol the road to school and give him a nice little driveby shooting if I see him. That would definitely be illegal, but I think the judge will understand.
