Especially given recent events, the West feels the Conservative party is the one which represents their views in government.

Yeah, and? There is no Quebec Conservative party. Federally Charest is a Conservative, if you don't recall.

For the forseeable future, a Tory leader will come from the West. Because the leaders of all of the other parties come from the East.

Then for the foreseeable future the Tories will not get majorities. Not saying that a Western leader will not be able to get majority, but rather that if non-Western Canada, which is 2/3 of population, feels that Tories are a Western party first and foremost they will vote against them.

Liberals can win majority without winning West. Conservatives cannot win a majority while winning only small minority of non-West.

Next time leadership comes up the best thing they could do would be to have a strong contender from central Canada (preferably urban cerntral Canada). He doesn't have to win, but demonstration taht a significant part of Tories will support him would be good for unity of country as well as Tories' electoral prospects.

Ignatieff will be the winner. Guaranteed.

Rae has too much baggaged, is probably genuinely a stupid human being, and has tied his fate to that of this ill-fated coalition.

Ignatieff comes from Toronto and is a strong, powerful leader who honestly seems more statesmanly than Harper.

If the Liberals are serious about being a real power again, he's their ticket on the gravy train of leftist centrism toga parties.
