But in Two Towers, Gandorf was also saved by one of the giant eagles. Why didn't that deus ex machina ruin that film for you, TEF?

EDIT: Never mind - I think Gandorf's rescue from the top of the tower was in the first movie.

Patty, when I saw the LOTR films, I saw how the ring indeed did possess double characteristics - obsessing the bearer even at same time that the ring is meant to find its way back to Sauron.

But what I thought you were saying was that if the ring had no control over Gollum because he didn't fall under Sauron's control then that also meant Gollum had control over the ring. But you were not saying that at all - my mistake.

I thought it was awesome how Gandorf and the eagles came to rescue Frodo and Sam. Call me crazy if you want.

Yes, he was overwhemed by the ring, but he never fell under Sauron's control; if he had, the ring would have been back with Sauron.

In any case, Gandalf on one eagle (he most certainly could have convinced them to go, what price wouldn't the elves/man pay to defeat Sauron) and Frodo on another. Gandalf wastes whatever Nazgul show up (he is most certainly capable of this) and they drop the ring in.
How many of the Nazgul did Gandalf "waste"?

For that matter, what price could they pay that would interest a giant eagle?

It's called fiction - are you really narrowly strict on what requires for you to suspend belief in order to enjoy a story or film?
