Those exposed screws are more a danger to you than they would be to cats, MrFun. And it's good to own a hacksaw, so get on with it.

The basics of cat ownership are pretty straightforward:
        1) Keep the letterbox reasonably clean.
        2) Feed regularly; use low-ash food.

The cat pretty much takes care of the rest.

Litterbox. If they use the letterbox, that's one of the primary reasons for carriers to go postal.

Yeah, and this brings to my next question. The Humane Society article I've read reccomends a litter box for each cat you own.

I doubt I have much space in my apartment for two litterboxes where they can be secluded enough for privacy. Can two cats get along with sharing one litter box?

I never thought of using corks.

I think I remember seeing smaller-sized "towers" sold at the Super Target back at home where I used to work.

Anyway, there is a Petsmart that I know of out here where I can go and look.

Keep on with that - cork is simply delicious to put claws into and destroy
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Alright, so far the input I've gotten here indicates the hack saw is the best way to go.

Now, about that litter box question . . .

I had two cats for many years. They shared a litterbox. Never a problem.

Hooded litterboxes are better than open ones -- not only providing privacy for the cat, but more importantly, minimizing the amount of clay that gets scattered across the floor.

BTW & FWIW, my cats always eschewed any furniture I bought for them.

Oh?? Well it probably depends on the cat's personality. Your cats may have scorned the furtniture you bought for them, but I may end up with cats that will love the furniture I would buy.

Have you tried rubbing cat nip on the furniture to see if that enocurages them to use them?

Cats are very particular about their toys.

We always got them nice and expensive stuff, they never liked it. They prefer the simple things: rubber balls, yarn, etc.

The only furniture they ever liked was a "cat condo" to put infront of the big windows so they can sun themselves.

                              1) Put tennis balls over the screws.

                              2) Buy a cheap hacksaw ($10).

So cat nip would not do anything to encourage cats to use a particular piece of furtniture?
