She wasn't oblivious; the interviewers asked if the spot was ok and she said yes. She just didn't care because she's not a sheltered ***** who gets the vapors when they see how their food actually ends up on their table.

Anyone expecting real change in how Washington works -- ever -- is delusional. The Dems and GOPs have a lot in common: They are all politicians, among the lowest life forms on earth.

Personally, I'm just hoping for some reversal -- or at least slowing down -- the past 8 years of federal trends.

Imperialist foreign policy, politicizing the Justice Department, stacking the Supreme Court, stripping the Bill of Rights, growing the federal bureaucracy, eliminating checks and balances, assuming crushing debt, idly overruling environmental laws, and generally making America a laughingstock in the global community.

Yes, it was time for a change. When dealing with politicians, it usually is.

Hey, it was a top-of-my-head rant. Quibble with the list if you wish.

          My point remains the same.

It's not stacking the supreme court when that is one of the main things that the people who elected Bush wanted him to do (He did get a lot of votes from social conservatives and they care a lot more about the supreme court than about Iraq or environmental laws or even taxes).

Indeed. Putting conservatives (or liberals) on the Supreme Court is one of the reasons people hold their noses to vote for a candidate if they don't like him.

Jon, if all your nominees are cut from the same cloth, targeting the same lightning rod issue (Roewade), it is stacking. And I agree that stacking -- or attempting to stack -- the court is totally normal and expected. Bush was able to to replace a moderate and a conservative with two conservatives.

My point, which still hasn't changed, is that if either party maintains control for too long, things get thrown out of balance.

Personally, I would much rather see intelligent, insightful Supreme Court justices from any area of the political spectrum than seeing underqualified idealogues or cronies nominated.

                    No. It really isn't.

Yep. Anyone who doesn't understand the humour of the situation (and it is a non-event, you don't need an event to exist to be humourous...) is bland.

I think it's more of a case of hypersensitivity regarding a target of their GOP lust.

The above is true. It is also a philosophical justification for the elected President to stack, or try to stack, the Supreme Court. Bush nominated at least one unqualified crony (female-type, name slips my mind). Many others in his role have done the same.

It'd be nice if someone on this board actually knew what "stacking" the Supreme Court meant.
