If people refused to fight, refused to kill other human beings for bull**** reasons, there would be no wars, and thus, no vets. The biggest heroes are those who refuse to fight, like the draft dodgers who went to Canada or the Mennonites and Socialists who went to prison rather then kill.

War is evil. Participating in evil doesn't make you a hero.

But then what if people in country X do the right thing and refuse to fight, while everybody in country Y does the wrong thing? Where does that get you?

It's pretty darn rude to step into a thread where people are honoring people who gave their lives for their country - right or wrong that country may be - and turn it into a political argument. The soldiers did what they felt was right, and for that should be respected if not honored. You must be able to respect people who have different beliefs than yourself; if you can't, then you end up being a jerk.

The Nazis did what they felt was right. Feeling something is right and acting is not necessarily honorable. If more Americans refused to participate in their leaders wars, a lot less innocent people would be dead in this world. What if every Vet who served in Vietnam had refused to fight. Two million Vietnamese might still be alive. Should I say thanks for killing all those people who never attacked America?

Darius, our county is not the one being attacked. Our country is the one doing the attacking. Canada, being our poodle, falls into the bad guy category, and thus, those who serve our Empire are not good guys.

This is just the internet, so people should be able to say whatever they want without offending others. But it's important to respect vets for what they did, because otherwise it can be mentally harmfull to them.

You should respect other peoples' beliefs and not post political **** (and regardless of it being YOUR belief, it is certainly political, you must realize this, yes?) in a thread honoring people who did what they felt was right in defending their country (or whatever). This is how we get along in this country - by exercising our right to free speech, and NOT speaking when it's appropriate.

I'm kindasorta thinking more in the past tense, and also I never said anything about the U.S.

Take the quintessential example of Barbarossa. You're a citizen in the USSR and while you might rightly feel that following your government blindly to war perpetuates the evil of war, you must also recognize that regardless what decision you make, the Nazis will nonetheless remain perfectly comfortable with that evil. Why make their job easier?
