Oerdin, did you get yourself a boat or are you setting lobster traps from the shore?

I went out to a pier. Specifically the Ocean Beach Pier which is the biggest pier on the west coast. The problem is people are always fishing off the pier and there had to be at least 50 people trying to catch lobsters even on a friday night at midnight. The pier must just be fished out because no one caught anything.

I did notice about ten boats out setting lobster traps and from the cheering and shouting it seems like they were catching plenty but they were well away from the pier. Damn I need a boat.

You should try to get a decent boat with sonar and GPS, so you can find your own lobster hotspots, where only a few people set traps. The problem is to find someone willing to reveal the GPS co-ordinates for those places. But if you study the bottom chart, you could probably tell the typical inhabitats if you know something about lobsters.

I have a decent boat of my own, but I never used it for lobster fishing. The lobster season here is September, and only in the archipelago north of Gothenbourgh, 400 km from here. I rarely have the time to go fishing that time of the year.

Here's a picture of my boat from my fishing holiday in Norway this summer. I have the boat on a trailer, so I can go fishing anywhere I want. I took a loan on my house to be able to afford the boat. The old loans were quite far below the market value of the house, so that was possible. But perhaps such affairs could be hard in these days of financial crisis and falling house prices.

I'm going again right now. I figure I can spend a few hours at one of the other piers because I'm determined to get some free lobsters.

The Oceanside pier is usually not very crowded late at night. Though getting there is likely going to cost more for you than the lobsters (if any) would be worth.

I spent two hours down at shoreline Park next to harbor island thinking that since it was an artificial island the water around it would be deeper. No such luck. The water was only 5-8 feet deep which is to shallow for lobsters It looks like I'll have to stick to piers or buy a boat. Failing that maybe putting on a wet suit and snorkeling might be the solution. All the guys with scuba or snorkel gear seem to catch their limit in an hour or less.

Jacking off can only occupy so much of a person's time, even Oerdin's; and we know what an enthusiast he is on that one.

I went for like two hours earlier tonight but gave up when it was obvious the spot I had selected wasn't any good. I need to find a spot near rocks but not on the rocks where the water is fairly deep 20-40 feet. Other then piers that can be hard to come by without a boat. The ideal spot would be the jetti at the north end of Coronado but I don't have a military id any more so that place is out.

Maybe the rock jetti by the mouth of Mission Bay might work.
