I assume that's what you mean by "legitimate contender in 4 years." If you just mean as folksy VP padding, yes she might survive, but even in that role she's been too much of a pathetic laughing stock for any nominee to make the same mistake twice.
Just pointing out it's a weird phrasing to call being selected VP as winning a primary at the bottom of the ticket...

The base adores her; just look at the crowds she draws. She's a star and certainly a legitimate contender in 4 years.
Screw the base. Just because they love her it doesn't mean they'll think she's halfway electable at the top of the ticket, no matter how insane they appear to be. Odds are she's not even stupid enough to run.
The base is going to be psychologically scarred and reduced to a rump right wing coalition between Appalaichia and the Mormons. Palin's problem is that I think she's exactly stupid enough to run. Jindal, OTOH, probably isn't.

I didn't call it being selected VP as winning a primary at the bottom of the ticket, you inferred that from my calling being selected as nominee winning a primary at the top of the ticket. It was a redundancy but what're you gonna do.
No, they're not. They're already blaming the loss on moderates like McCain who didn't have the balls to really go after Obama. The GOP base is going to come out of this election angry and with heightened influence just like the Dem base in 2004.

The candidate decides who wins in the primaries. And she's shown well enough how much she sucks at being a candidate.
Of course they'll "love" her when in siege mode facing Ocommiemuslimterristbama Bin Biden on one hand and McRINO on the other, but in month after month after month of ridiculous gaffes in a grueling primary against fellow conservatives with real credentials who might actually have half of half a chance at being a contender in the general, you'll see just how loyal the "base" truly is. She's a ****ing useless fad and even they know it.

I disagree. She's been great on the stump and draws huge crowds. She did well in the debate with Biden. She sucked with Couric and Gibson, but those were her first real interviews at a national level and she had to answer with McCain's talking points, not her own views. She's performed much better since and would only have to explain her own views in four years. I wouldn't underestimate her if I were you.

That was my point. The Republicans are going to crazytown, which is roughly where Palin is positioning herself.
