I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

        • I think Palin is a bit smarter politically than most people assume. I think her next step will be to run for re-election to Governor and then to the Senate. Leave 2012 for Romney or Huckabee (and there I think Romney would have a far better shot in the GOP primary.. but it'll probably end up being a new contender).

          • It doesn't matter. The Republicans have no chance in 2012. Either the economy gets better or it doesn't. Either way 2012 will be a landslide for Obama.

Um... if it doesn't, it likely won't be a landslide for Obama.

              • It depends on how he behaves. The economy was still in shambles in 1936, but because of FDR behaved right, he was elected in a landslide.

It's either him or a socialist.

                  • You seem to have weird ideas about the American public.

When we were embroiled in stagflation in the 70s, the country didn't exactly turn to a socialist or the Democratic incumbent. It turned to the most right winged (economically) President of the post-WW2 era.

                    • If the economy didn't turn around before the 84' election you betcha there would have been a socialist elected.

                      • Mondale?

After all, Stagflation had been around since the early 70s.

Even Mondale would have beaten Reagan. Reagan's policies were horribly unpopular until the economy turned around.

                          Not enough unemployment.

You done miss the joke. Basically I'm saying is Mondale supposed to be the "socialist"? And I don't see Obama is going to avoid having seen his policies as being "horribly unpopular until the economy turned around".

I know you'd like a socialist to be elected... not happening.

If the economy doesn't turn around by 2012 and Obama's policies are judged to be unpopular it's going to be because they aren't radical enough. Those who would be calling for free markets would be a small minority.
