A few weeks ago, I attended a town council meeting in the city of Coconut Creek, FL. The entire community is opposed to this rezoning. The town council not only voted unanimously in favor of rezoning (and they'd all received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the developer, hmmmm) they council actually lectured the protesters, most of whom were middle class, suburban parent types.

The point I'm trying to make here is that our government hates when the public gets involved. Why then, would they want smooth, transparent elections? It's not that we can't get our elections right after 200 years. It's that are elections are right for the people who hold them. They just aren't right for the citizens.

They won't listen to the public unless the public's displeasure translates in them getting voted out. Unfortunately the public generally has a short attention span. Any of them up for reelection this go around?

Except that they didn't want them and there were a couple "10 minutes away". Likely they will compete with each other and in the end 1 will shut down due to loss of sales.

It's unlikely those stores will be opened before the coming election next March, and a lawsuit has been filed to prevent the project from moving forward. Apparently, according to the law, the town council broke the law in order to rezone the land.

Spray, I believe all of them are up for re-election in March.

I hear that a lot though "we don't want them". Then they tend to love them when they are there. Similar thing happened in my hometown. But people seem to love now that they have a Target and Lowe's so close.

1. Many local governments are pressed for cash(except when they want to spend ungodly sums on schooling!) and can't afford it.

2. Many local governments are essentially, incompetent.

3. Republican state legislatures are dragging their feet and intentionally making it difficult to set up adequate early voting, because it seems to favor democrats.

Yeah great another ugly sh*t box that allows retards to add debt to their twelfth credit card so they could buy some gimmicky t-shirt and plastic junk from China. Any person with a sense of taste or someone who doesn't want their community filled to the brim with such ugly architectural travesties would immediately fight it.

In my area there are so many abandon box stores or vacant lots with exposed foundations. Its stupid and wasteful. They'll spend millions of dollars building these things and as soon as they find out they don't do well in one location, they leave and build another store three blocks away.

Really who the hell would want more of these things around?
