Just as I was going to compliment you in the other thread for seeing past the trite **** and not biting on this..... You managed to start a whole thread on it.

So let me get this straight - You don't think a Federal Cabinet Minister joking about Canadians that died under his watch is an issue worth talking about but it is an issue when a french canadian has difficulty with a poorly worded question in english? You are truly astounding sometimes.

I think I'll vote Liberal. Conservative supporters are clearly insane.

If Harper and his crew were brave enough to face the media they would have retakes as well. You do know how the media interview business works don't you?

Dion did very well in the French debate. Tory support has gone down by almost 10% since.

But do you even know what's going on in your ****ing country?

The question was not poorly worded. It was then clarified three times and he still had trouble.

I don't think the issue of the joke was worth talking about because it was an Agriculture Minister (who cares about them), and he's not someone who is to represent the entire country on the world stage. Dion is to discuss with other foreign leaders, almost exclusively in English, and he can't even talk properly in debates, in interviews, or in stump speeches. It's absolutely a key issue in this election, you are electing a Prime Minister (not an agriculture minister) to represent this country.

I'm sure the agriculture's minister's comments will hurt him in his riding, as it should -- but it's not a national issue. Dion's incompetence with the English language is a major national issue, whether it's PC to talk about it or not.

Can you cite evidence CTV said it would not air the interview?

What the video shows is something very different than what you are claiming. Dion doesn't specifically say they promised not to show it too, just that it was assumed by his "can we try again?" comment...

His English was far and away better than Stephane Dion. He had a heavy accent, but he spoke more or less coherently.

I'm not sure why Wezil and Oncle Boris thinks it's absurd to have a Prime Minister with strong communication skills.

I'm kind of shocked Wezil thinks it's unimportant. What do you guys think a Prime Minister does, exactly?

I'm sure he did better than in the English debate, but Harper's numbers went down before the debate even happened due to the Arts fiasco.

I've heard from more intelligent French-speaking people than yourself that his French sentences are not always coherent either.

Poorly worded question? You can't be serious especially after the 1st clarification. You sound like the idiots trying to defnd Palin - Couric interview as something less than a trainwreck.

He used past and present tense in the same sentence and the "clarifcation" was the damn same question/problem. You and I understood what the interviewer was after but english is our first language.

I don't think the issue of the joke was worth talking about because it was an Agriculture Minister (who cares about them), and he's not someone who is to represent the entire country on the world stage.

I can understand your confusion as Harper's ministers don't have the role ministers in normal governments have had (ie. they actually ran their portfolio and didn't rely on the PM to micromanage) but yes Asher, Ministers do represent the country on the international stage.

The problem with Ritz's comments was that he was cracking jokes about his political misfortunes caused by the deaths of Canadians at a time Canadians were still dying. It was wrong on so many levels.

Dion is to discuss with other foreign leaders, almost exclusively in English, and he can't even talk properly in debates, in interviews, or in stump speeches. His difficulty with english is a liability I myself have commented on. It was the basis of the avatar bet I made.

Ritz won his riding with 54% of the vote last time. I suspect he will win again.

I don't love Harper, but I really want the Liberals to get the **** kicked out of them, so I might vote Conservative

DD, Dion has proposed a (questionable) 30-day plan.

He wasn't sure if the interviewer meant "what would you have already done, if you had been in charge say, 2 years ago", or "what would you have done if you were PM today" (i.e. implement his crappy plan).

Unlike most politicians, he's got the will to answer the question, instead of repeating his cassette.

The interviewer repeatedly said today. Repeatedly.

Desperation spin like this makes the situation and person saying it look worse, not better.

Ninot - We are exact opposites on this apparently. Do the conservatives have any chance in your riding?
