NYT is being imaginative when it links "lobbyists/directors/etc" to Fannie Mae, I'd guess. Either that or one of the lists is wrong. I'd guess the NYT's.

Plenty of Republicans on that list. And it doesn't include the numbers of THIS campaign year, where McCain has gotten more donations from Fannie & Freddie than Obama did over the past several years combined, including this one.

And did I mention that none of Obama's contributions comes from lobbyists? Whereas one of McCain's chief campaign aides was a lobbyist for them until very recently...

Obama does not take donations from Federal lobbyists, this is well-documented.

EDIT: I think that list from opensource whatever is seriously whacked. Since McCain had to stop taking donation as of his convention, I doubt he raised his $169,000 this election cycle in just two months.

What surprised me most of all is that McCain didn't really do anything to try to shake things up or do anything unexpected at all. All he needed was one good zinger for the cable news to play over and over again and he didn't even do that. Seems that his campaign staff and Palin are still going for blood but it almost seems like McCain is giving up...

All of this is IMO, of course & I have not read any of the blogs following the debates yet (it's my anniversary today, so it is doubtful that I will until tomorrow).

Overall outcome: Draw.

Both candidates should have been seeking major blows to their opponents, and neither got them. That hurts McCain worse than Obama, given Obama's current lead, but Obama lost an opportunity to widen that lead, which he could have done had he really performed well during last night's debate.

LOTS of awkward debate moments. It is clear that neither candidate likes this format.

Neither candidate spent much time answering the d@mned questions posed. Both spent most of their "talk time" spinning their answers off in fun directions so they could snipe at each other and/or push a piece of their platform & agenda. IMO, it didn't work very well for either of them, and did a disservice to the debate format. I would have been insulted if they'd given a non answer to my debate question.

Obama spent much of his time in straight sniping mode, comparing and contrasting his plans with those of his opponent. If he was looking for a knockout, he definitely did not get it. (and btw...it's either "greenhorn" or "wet behind the ears" NOT "Green Behind the Ears" which makes one seem afflicted with something nasty). *shakes head--no doubt, the pressures of performing without cuecards and in a more scripted debate format*

McCain spent much of his time trying to paint Obama as the well intentioned but just plain wrong newbie. That didn't really work either. He mostly came across as a crotchety old man. Obama was being kind when he called him "somber."

Both tried to invoke the image of Teddy Roosevelt, who I agree is one of only a handful of really awesome, almost larger-than-life presidents.

Neither of these candidates lives up to that image.

Not even close.

I hope that in my lifetime, we have one who will.

In the meantime, my vote and opinion is unchanged, but TR he ain't.

I have no such confidence, MrFun. I've spent nearly the entirety of my 30 years on this Earth watching the Democratic Party fumble away opportunity after opportunity. I am in no way certain that they aren't about to do it again.
