  • I thought the first debate was more or less a draw, but this one felt like a decisive Obama victory. Except for the Georgia question, it looked like Obama won nearly every exchange.

And Brokaw's terrible. Why not just let the guys talk to each other? Jim Lehrer should be moderator for life...

McCain needed a decisive victory to turn the race around, and got a loss (or at best, a draw). Regardless of whether the McCain campaign's new strategy of associating Obama with terrorism and treason could work, the imagery that we saw last night decidedly was not reinforcing that argument. One debate left and all domestic policy, where McCain has been consistently weaker.

And McCain endorsed HOLC? He might have wanted to tell the Congressional Republicans that before the second compromise was drafted.

    • I thought this debate was a complete waste of time.

Both candidates blabbered on, either reiterating things they've already said numerous times or else making false or wildly exaggerated claims about the other guy.

I began flipping to other channels in an attempt to find something interesting and coming back to see if the debate had gotten better. It never did. I ended up watching Bonnie & Clyde.

      • So I was reading the National Review blog because sometimes pain is funny, and came across this:

The Hunched Pak of Notre Stan [Mark Steyn]

Re Senator Obama's ostentatiously exotic pronunciation of Pakistan, one thing I like about Sarah Palin is the way she says "Eye-raq".

OI! McCain! You're a ****head for hating on the Adler Planetarium with that complaint about 3 miilion for an educational Zeiss planetarium projector!

Especially for an earmark which wasn't funded.

Talk about a stinkbomb topping on the urinal cake that is your dirty, nasty campaign.

Seriously, why you gotta hate on science education like that?

You forgot the mention that McCain called it an "overhead projector" in order to make it sound like it was one of those cheap things our elementary school teachers used to struggle with.

Obviously because it turns people into elitist liberals .

                • If he's going to highlight egregious examples, let's not target earmarks that would have been used to progress scientific education?

Y'know, since he's supposed to have a hard-on for it? (Though most every scientist seems to have his or her doubts about whether he really has one, or is just popping a pill to help his sagging, ah, trendline...)

Since I know and enjoy arugula, read magazines like The Economist and The New Yorker, and think that book learnin', far from being faggy, is good.

I believe Sarah Palin defended her continued use of earmarks in Alaska because the ones she kept were for education and things like that. So ask her.

He could have pointed to a certain bridge in Alaska .

                        • Wow, idiot conservatives are just starting to ****ing piss me off more and more.

I'm hoping even the smart conservatives are starting to get annoyed by this kind of worthless, ****ing inane bull****.

The issue? Petraeus's pronunciation of "Pakistan". You know, how he says it correctly, as in "pock-ih-stahn", not "pack-ee-stan".

                          Petraeus's pronunciaction.

                          See these comments:
"...Seriously though — no one in flyover country says Pock-i-stahn. It's annoying."

"The academic way that Obama says "Pakistan," with a soft "a" - reminscent of a 1980s "Saturday Night Live" sketch in which newscasters over-pronounced "Managua, Nicaragua."

A shot every time the candidates pronounce "Pakistan" or "Taliban" in an annoying way?

                          Oy.
