I dont know how many times i have pointed this out so far in the last 5 years or so, but yet here i go again:

It is entirely true IMO, that the only thing, that could prevent the US attacking you, if it wants something from you, you have and are not willing to give them, or if they simply dont like your nose or whatever, is to arm with WMDs. Thus it is evident, that the US and allies KNEW there were no WMDs in Iraq, before they assembled an army in front of its border, threatening its very souvereignity. That they didnt find any WMDs wasnt some intelligence mistake, but the their existence was a planned lie, and everyone of the decision-makers knew it.

One can basically believe one of the two following versions:

      a) The decision makers in the US and UK really believed, Iraq possessed WMDs. Under this premise assembling a conventional force at the border for invasion is plain military and political suicide. The decions makers are idiots in this case. Esp. given the image of Saddam being a total power-greedy reckless nuthead, that was passed onto us.
(BTW - is their any footage of his trial ? Transcripts of his defence ? Videos ? I mean except his execution. ´Lord father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy na...´*snap*... nice... really nice... - lemme guess: no ? oh, why not i wonder... maybe he had something to say ?)

      b) The decision makers in US & UK knew that Saddam did not have WMDs and attacked him for entirely different reasons. Then they are people, who dont mind lying to their people and the whole world for some agenda, which obviously better remains secret in their eyes.

For me, it´s not that hard, to decide what i find more realistic. And that extents to Mr. Bush as well. I dont chime in with most other folks, saying he was flat-out stupid. He does, what he wants to do, quite cleverly. He just seems so stupid, because the purpose of his action has hardly ever the one announced. *smirk*

And yeah, in conclusion all those nations on the list + those who have a reason to think, they might end up on it (meaning they have oil, and/or refuse to let american corps reap off profit from it), need WMDs ASAP.

I think it is time for the amrican citizen to realize, that their military is not used in their interest, but that of the corps alone - just like the rest of their tax-money (except a tiny fraction maybe). Do 700 billion ring a bell, at least ? Mr. Bush isnt winning this civ-game for America, he tries to win it for standard ethanol.

@fed 1943: The legal basis for denying nukes to nations who dont have them yet is the non-profiliation treaty. But i do not know, if NK signed that. If so, all they´d have to do is to step back from it.

Is there hope ? Well some might say - yeah Obama ! Yeah, right. The only question i have about this guy, is wether he will be another Bobby, or another John Fitzgerald (or be turned around to follow suit in time)...

EDIT: What verification does NK have that the US wont attack it next year or so ?

The artillery poised to obliterate the SK capital seems like a good bet in that regard.

NK signed the treaty, but has de facto withdrawn from it.

NK knows the US won't attack them because if they do, they'll invade South-Korea and launch missiles at the densily populated cities of Japan, and that would cause major casualties. I'm quite positive NK won't actually do this however. The only thing the regime wants is to stay in power. It is not interested in the rest of the world, hence its isolation.

But of course, the US know that NK has the ability to go to war and destroy SK so their hands are tied down and can't do a thing. Besides NK isn't particularly a high priority for the US at the moment. NK is in a strong position. The only reason they want to give in is to end the blockades and to get more food supplies in. Their population is starving, and even though they can hold out despite that, they can't keep that situation forever. There's only so much a regime can handle. Still at the moment NK is calling the shots, and the US can't handle that. They still think they are the onmi-potent superpower who can dictate the world. Sadly their power is waning... it just takes a while before they fully realize that

Oh, thats just a good pretext to attack it, since it´s a threat, right ? It if, in case of war, it happens, we can be sure who the villian is, and have one more country in ruins, ready to be overtaken.

And, if desired, that artillery could probably be taken out within minutes.

EDIT: The above refered to the post two above this one.

I think the best asset NK has against an attack by the US, is that it simply offers no real booty... Not much to gain there. No business potential - simply not an interesting target...

Second is China, who would probably back them up again - and that would make things really serious and unpredictable...

Possible colletral damage didnt even bother when it concerned Israel in 1991... but yeah, it probably is a point.

Which is why it's not a top priority. But still, it always sounds good if the axis of evil doesn't only contain oil-rich countries

There are 40,000 pieces of artillery within range of Seoul alone. Most of it is hardened in bunkers and hillsides. It could be taken out, but not in minutes, and probably not before Seoul wasn't looking very hot.

If they had done so during the negotiations, they wouldn't be. Since the agreement that exists doesn't call for such, holding up an existing agreement already in force, is basically trying to sabotage the agreement.
