I do like Barney Frank's response:
We have come together on a bill and because somebody hurt their feelings, they come together to hurt the country. I would not have imputed that degree of pettiness to the Republicans! Think about this: somebody hurt my feelings, so I will punish the country! I mean, that's hardly plausible! I'll make an offer: Give me those twelve people's names and I will talk uncharacteristically nicely to them and tell them what wonderful people they are, and maybe they now will think about the country.

Hilarious. So you think that's why they would vote against it?

Bottom line, Pelosi should know when to shut the **** up.

Or Republicans should get a more competent whip operation.

When you're trying to get someone to buy into your plan, you don't kick them in the nuts. It's poor salesmanship.

Might be a good way to sell nut cups.

Uhm, Democrats didn't need one Republican vote to pass this. If Pelosi was going to spew like that, she should have had the votes to back it up.

I thought you would feel that way. Since I got no clue I kinda hope this passes and kinda hope it doesn't. Either way I'm covered, thanks Aeson.

                      • I think it is telling that I like the Republican 'fringe' plan and Democrat 'fringe' plan much better than this one.

I am flabbergasted! What a stupid, petty, inexcusable thing to do!!! She's an embarrassment to the Democratic Party, to the Congress, to the United States of America and to the human race.

They did. This is (and had to be) a bipartisan plan that faced defections on the left. The Dems delivered their share of the vote, while the GOP didn't. Blaming the behavior of Republican members of Congress with regard to legislation of this import on what amounts to a tame, generic Dem speech is completely ridiculous.

Whether or not you like legislation, blaming Pelosi for its failure is nonsense.

I don't know. Her giving a highly partisan speech right before the vote could have change perceptions to seeing this as a Democratic-plan.

To a Repug facing a tough re-election, who is thinking about bucking the will of his constiuants and voting for this very unpopular bill, her speech could have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
