Hold up there bud. I'm not agreeing with you here. I've disagreed with you on both statements. That said I believe that stereotyping individuals is wrong.

You actually agreed with me on both statements, but that is why we don't let you keep score.

Yes, stereotyping individuals is wrong, which would mean saying that "women" as a group are more X is wrong. Correct?

Bull****. You can't keep score. I'm doing just fine.

No. A stereotype is an impression. A scientific study is not.

          Oh good, science!

Please quantify "social responsibility" and tell me how many more units of social responsibility women have than men.

It would be wasted on you. Anyone who doesn't believe that men are just as socially responsible as women, after all the evidence that I've presented is incapable of scientific reasoning.

Again, please present some evidence of your own.

No. A stereotype is an impression. A scientific study is not.
There is a scientific study that says all people in a social group act exactly the same?! Where is this magical study?

I guess I agree with you two times?

You keep getting it wrong, Kid. We have no way, at present, of measuring the total output of social responsibility from a group of people. Studies do not measure this, period.

All studies show is a predilection for a particular type of behavior in certain segments of the population.

There is a difference. While more women than men may tend towards social responsibility, this simply does not mean that women, as a rule, are more socially responsible than man. In order to show that, you have to be able to quantify this behavior in some way.

It is unfair to paint broad strokes on whole population groups. Further, it doesn't even help anything. Who cares if women are more socially responsible? So what? How does that "fact" help us get rid of sexism? It doesn't. It's just one more way to draw lines between the sexes.

Human behaviors are only noteworthy to the extent that they are useful to us in some way. If social responsibility is useful - great - let's find a way to make all people, regardless of sex, social responsible. What does that have to do with women?

                  • You disagree with me when I say that people should be free to make whatever choices they want in life regardless of their gender?

                    Oh, ok, then.

None of your evidence has actually proven your position.

Helping oppressed people fights oppression. That's exactly right.
So, treating people as unequal does not result in oppression.

Treating, say, white people as better than black people, and thus, unequal, does not result in oppression. Case in point, South Africa.

Treating black people as better than white people, and thus, unequal, does not result in oppression. Case in point, Zimbabwe.

Treating men as better than women does not lead to oppression. Case in point, most of history.

Helping oppressed people, yes, fights oppression. But that wasn't what you said. You said treating people as equal lead to oppression, and then you agreed that treating people unequally wouldn't.

Gee I don't know, whould you like me to punch you in the face or reject you socially.
So it's clear that you place a value judgement that social violence is less harmful than physical violence.

There are lots and lots of gays who would debate that.
There are lots of ex-Mormons who would debate that.
There are lots of people from all walks of life who would debate that.

Social violence is no less harmful than physical violence, and while physical violence heals in a few weeks or months, psychological damage arising from social violence takes a lot longer to heal.

So, as for myself? Go ahead and punch me in the face. I can deal. It's better than getting my mom to disown me and my brother to treat me like an HIV-addled leper. I'd rather be hit by a two-by-four and have my legs broken than have all of my friends shun me.

Physical, 'masculine' violence doesn't bother me nearly as much.

Why are you such a ****?
                      Classy.

But you also just said that you shouldn't treat people equally, but unequally.

                        How is inequality fair?

We've been arguing that men are just as socially responsible as women.

                          You've been arguing the opposite.

You said, "Now, can we agree that "social roles" for the sexes should be abolished and we should treat people like individuals?"

That's not the same thing. Absolutely women should be able to choose careers such as nursing and child rearing. They should also get paid just as much for them.

Now you are clearly just trying to **** this thread up. I think that only shows how insensitive you are towards women. You aren't making a good point, although it appears that you are stupid enough to think that you are.

Yes, I ****ed up on that statement. It should read that men or less socially responsible than women.
