  • Also, our last economic crash? Yeah, that was right before the whole invading iraq and afghanistan thing. Perhaps a different story, but still...

    • The good news is that, if the US economy collapses, the Pashtun farmer in northeastern Pakistan, the Iraqi shopkeeper in Fallujah, the Iranian worker in Tehran, and the peasant in Venezuela, will no longer have to worry about being bombed or having their children mowed down by a US helicopter gunship.
This would be more convincing if the author knew where in Pakistan the Pashtuns were being bombed.

          • So, does this all mean history books will say Greenspan sucked?

By the way, anybody knows what libertarians are saying? I mean, what way of blaming this on the state have they found?

The crisis is not that different, Argentina during the nineties had an overvalued currency, and the way the state found to cover that deficit was first, privatizing the public companies for billions and dollars, and once they had no more companies to privatize, just getting more and more indebted (at that time they would say that if the debt grows less than the gdp there is no problem)

The USA has also been growing more than it should have these past years, it was all based on cheap loans and debts.

The difference is that Argentina has had three crisis like this one since 1980, so people unfortunately know how it feels, and as soon as they see a few symptoms, they all rush to the banks to get their dollars out.

If something like that happened in the USA (I know it won't) it would be the twilight zone.

Too much regulation since 1932. If the market had been left to it's own devices there would have been no wars, hot or cold, no military-industrial complex, no hippies, no stagflation, no dot com bubble, and no credit bubble.

                The market fixes all. Ohmmmmm.

That giant pumping sound is the Fed flooding the system with cash.

My guess is that after a short pop for the stock markets, it will just go to pump up the gold and oil prices. Stock prices need to fall.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

If libertarians were in control we would be in a full blown world depression at this point.
