Is The New Facebook An Interface Disaster?

The other problem is that this interface change is 100% motivated by ad hits rather than actual usability.

I prefer more discrete pages than one big bloaty page, which is actually the problem with the original Facebook design.

      Information overload on one page.

It's interesting that this is a further departure from MySpace in terms of discrete information pages, but some people here claim they're making it more like MySpace.

I dislike myspace, so don't like the fact that people say the new look is similar to myspace. I use the old look right now.

I was pretty turned off by the new interface the first time I tried it. I've been messing with it a bit today, and it doesn't seem quite so bad, but I still prefer the straight verticle layout when I'm browsing from a computer. I do actually like their iPhone layout quite a bit.

I prefer the new interface. I like things broken up as opposed to one big layout.

I really thought when Facebook started the whole appeal was simplicity and standardization, which Myspace lacked. Now everything looks like ass and there's ten million things going on. Bumper stickers? WTF?

I really hope, if Zuckerburg continues to be a retarded manager, that facebook gets replaced by a company that knows how to not **** up such a simple concept.

Lots of people don't like the cluttering of applications on the profile page, including me. However, it was easy to click a profile and quickly scroll down in order to see how the person portrays him or herself. In the new version I can't be bothered to click on the tab with the applications etc. Too time-consuming. I don't want to spend too much time on facebook by browsing through pages and pages. So the one page profile was perfect for me.

And in the end there's not an awful lot to do on facebook. Therefore keep it plain and simple is the best option methinks

True enough, but MySpace is an excellent example of bad layout and terrible usability, whereas the original facebook excelled at it, and by the looks of it many people agree with that...

The original layout was fine with the original featureset. As featureset grew, MySpace-itis affected it. Profiles got longer and longer as more and more applications were added.

Splitting it up into discrete chunks is clearly the right way to go. Some people just simply aren't used to it, and that's fine. People are creatures of habit.

That said, suck it up and figure it out. If you're too stupid to use facebook, then go back to MySpace.

I wouldn't know that there's ads. As an intelligent person, I've configured my browser not to display them.

I wouldn't know about the stupid applications like bumper stickers and fortune cookies, because I don't have stupid friends who use them. As an intelligent person, consider having intelligent friends.

As you can see, this has everything to do with intelligence.

Facebook is truly useful because it provides an additional filter to get rid of bad friends.

For instance, yesterday I had a friend on my list who I hooked up with in 2001 (he was hot). But he joined a group called "9/11 was an inside job", and he immediately was de-friended. Facebook is useful in this respect.
