Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

This thread reached its saturation point long ago. PH jumped in while the corpse was still twitching, as is his wont.

Where did I say that? I don't have any evidence that he hates them.

It's even money that they hate him, though.

With the obvious exception that he's a far-left psycho as opposed to far-right. I suggest we have the two of them meet in Osama bin Laden's cave, where they will annihilate each other in a colossal burst of energy and radiation.

You guys want to make it black and white, and I've already answered that it's not. So you're both childish. Now how are you suppose to work things out with childish people who play these kinds of games?

              • You are a moral coward and a weakling, Kidicious. Regardless of your posturing, you are apparently unwilling to answer a straight and simple question on the core issue of the IRA's role in the Troubles.

No, black and white would be "which side was the good guys?" If you think a straight question about whether or not an action is morally acceptable is too simplistic, well, how do you function in the real world? The question may involve a complex situation, but in the end it always comes down to "yes, it's justified" or "no, it isn't." If you think these questions can't be answered with a yes or no at all...I don't know where you go from there. Law school, perhaps.

                    I REPEAT. I DON'T BELIEVE IN MORALITY.

Why is that concept so hard for you to understand? I function just fine. I get in where I fit in. If I want to do it and I can I do. I don't do around pretending to know what that will be in the future.

It's not an act. If I say you are acting vulgarly then that's the way I feel.

It's not about who started it. It's about the oppression of the Catholic minority. Sure, I'd like to see a united Irish Republic, but the Protestants have the right to national self determination. What they don't have the right to do is treat the Catholics as second class citizens devoid of rights.

                            Why?

The island of Ireland was never a united state, except by virtue of it being, in common, a vassal of England. Is it some sort of a desire for neatness to see it deemed as such now, with no historical precedent?

Why not merge Spain and Portugal too? It'll make the Iberian peninsula look neater.

The Iberian Peninsula has been united a few times, to no clearly identifiable detriment of the residents.

Unity in small land masses is both convenient and useful for both internal and external trade. The end, in itself, is usually desirable, although the specifics of the space can make the idea unacceptable to the many externally interfering elements. The Irish, north and south, have much more in common with each other than either have with anyone on the next island over. Their beliefs in certain Medieval religious structures being the only major difference in the two groups.

As to the relative righteousness of terrorism, all of you need to grow up a bit. Terrorism is about attacks on the innocent, to include a few children. Selection of this tactic (strategy?) brings with it that opprobrium. The belief of the selector is that the attacked will be repulsed more than the attacker and eventually pull back OR the attacked will react with much greater pressure on the population the terrorist claims to represent to the point where that population explodes in full-blown revolution. The form was enabled by explosives and can be overcome by less pressure and more positive feedback to that same population to the point where they give up the terrorists or drive them into exile. Terrorism is selected by the actors for the cause they believe in and will be sustained as long as the population supports them.

I sincerely doubt that anyone on Apolyton has actually decided and then acted in that way. So, all this argument is about a theory, a thought each of you might have prior to facing such an actual decision.

And, yes, the Native Americans have a very identifiable grievance. The last time they tried to make a stand, a lot of them got killed and many more got arrested. Russell Means and a few others are out of prison and speaking out when they can, but the younger folk don't seem to have the stomach for another round of armed confrontation.
