That makes it all the more important to get as many people as possible on our side.

Or, alternately, to make sure the Italians are on their side.

Lancer doesn't like Earth, you can see it in his posts. Lancer wants Fallout to be real so that he can sell lizard parts as food, where he will name his stall "Lancers Land of Lounging Lizard Licks."

Has having those guys as allies ever done any good to anyone?

You see, this is the way those who stand up for freedom are treated by those who don't want to die and 'just want it to stop' because they think by defending themselves they will be killed. So instead of speaking against the powers that would oppress them, they attack those who would defend them. Why? Because the oppressors don't listen. In so doing they weaken the defense by not being part of it, and make the war more likely. The Sovs had no such problems because they would just ship such off to Siberia and work them to death.

That's the way of the world. It has been that way all my life. Those of us who stood guard on the German border were facing attack on both sides. On the East German side by 10 Soviet armored and 10 mech divisions and 4 East German divisions, all of that just in East Germany. In the back we had the constant criticism of many in Germany and the US that believed we were better red than dead. Well, we're niether. We won cold war 1. Now we face cold war 2 and we're in much better position. Still those who cry will cry, and those who stand will stand, and that's all there is about that.

Heraclitus, they helped the allies in WW1 a fair amout by opening a front that the central powers couldn't afford at a time when they needed everything to hold the French and finish the Russians. Later, the forces on this front couldn't take part in the 1918 offensive against France. So they did help the allies, but only by fighting against the guys they were allied with at the start of the war. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

So, looks like you Russians will have a match for ornery stubborness in the White House. Better pull out of Georgia while it still looks like it was your idea. It would be wise.
Well, it would be easier for us to deal with McCain than with McAbel. Obama is something new, but we've done business with McCains before.

Perhaps. But I don't recall NATO starting any fights with anyone.

It should be made clear to Russia therefore that if they attack Georgia they risk an counter invasion of Russia and therefore a world wide nuke war. If that happens Putin will not only not have his dacha on the Black Sea, but will live out the few remaining years of his life in a cold, dank bomb shelter surviving on canned food put there in the 1960s.
If we give NATO membership to Georgia, then we will have to do this. So why do we want to give them NATO membership? The purpose of allying with people is to increase your own defense. Not to greatly increase the chance of nuclear war.

Allying with Georgia does not increase our defenses. So why do it?

Giving Georgia NATO membership is the worst idea EVER.

You have a point about NATO aggression in the Balkans but Afghanistan was about collective defense.
