A Cat 2 is nothing to sneeze at, and with all the shoddy construction in the Houston area, staying put may not be the best idea.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Texans warned Ike could bring 'certain death'
The report I heard was it WOULD BE certain death not to heed evaculation warnings in Galveston.

The danger of Ike isn't so much from its winds but from its sheer size. It's expected to be pushing a 22 foot (7 meter) storm surge in front of it. If your house is 12 feet high, and it's 10 feet about sea level, it will be underwater.

Galveston has a sea wall, but other communities don't. I was watching the Weather Channel earlier and at one place, the whole town was already flooded, and there was not very much wind. In Galveston, waves are already reaching the deck of the fishing pier.

You know its bad when the flooding starts, as it has in some places, 18 hrs before landfall

IIRC, the Galveston's sea wall is 12 feet high. This storm surge is expected to be 20-22 feet high.

            Galveston, we have a problem.

We've taken down our satellite dish

Thankfully we have an OTA antenna!

I'm guessing that in my ~200 unit apt complex, maybe 2-3% has left, parking garage is full with cars still on the upper uncovered level (not either of mine, thankfully)

My wife's mother has called like 4 times today.

My mom called once and said "I bet you're enjoying this" "yup"

All East Texas folks must, from time to time, report in so we know you're okay.

If you're killed, report this fact IMMEDIATELY!

                    Everybody likes Ike!

They should have named the hurricane after somebody else.

Stay safe and drink hard, y'all!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

                        Tina Turner rocks.

Although she should have pressed charges.

Hitting right now. I think they said stormwall of 10 ft and surge looks to be at least 14 feet. Many areas to the east are not protected by seawalls or levees

It's just under Cat 3 strength right now, 110 mph sustained winds.
