Euros love Obama. With Russia going nuts again I wonder if that's in their self interests? I don't know what Obama as pres means for european defense, but McCain would without a doubt reinforce europe and likely forward deploy troops into Poland. Obama on the other hand would likely cut the military to pay for his announced social programs. That means europe might well be on their own without leadership.

Just seems odd to me.

You obviously don't have much experience with euros. At least the Germans and French which would be the ones able to face the Russians militarily if they had the will. I remember France pulling out of the military arm of NATO when the Russians were in Germany, just next door. That's the French, the Germans would have pulled out too if they could have. With 1/3 of their country slave to the Russians they cut their defense expenitures to 1/2 US expenditures as a factor of GDP.

No, without the US 500 million euros will fall to 150 million Russians, one nation at a time. Unbelieveable? Believe it.

You're comparing their military expenditures to those of the US? The US spends way too much on defense in order to defend themselves. And who would attack? Canada? That would be very similar to the Russians attacking the EU since the relative size of the economies is similar. Russian economy is about 1/10th that of the EU.
