It's a shame too Slowwhand, America did well for the past 100 years, but I guess its time for America to turn in its hat and start paying off its debts like the rest of us.

I see that Chinese reeducation is working wonders for you, Frosty.

I don't know where to begin. Let's start at the beginning. Last 100 years? Turn in it's hat? Keep your filthy paws off the hat. Pay our debts? This point proves you're drunk.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. Personally, I think he's overrated, but what are you going to do?

Republican party of 1850s - 1870s != Republican party of present day

Unless you think political parties are static and never go through any changes whatsoever??

Abraham Lincoln is the only Republican of past and present, whom I admire.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

I could name atleast three I admire:

                        Teddy Roosevelt,
                        Eisenhower,
                        Nixon

I'd thrown in Grant, but he was less than admirable as a president, not by his own doing.

I already lost all faith in the ability of the American people to choose a decent president for themselves in 2004. I'm looking ahead to McCain's inevitable legendary landslide victory with a certain amount of subdued amusement.

While true it still makes me sad.

Look on the bright side. He's already pushing 73 so at the end of his first term he'll be older then the median age of death for people of his generation. I'd say there is a 50-50 chance he croaks in office and we're left with a real extremist idiot in power. That's right folks, Romney, you heard it here first.

Let's face it Roosevelt and Eisenhower would be thrown out of the modern Republican Party. Roosevelt thought big business was to powerful and moved to break up monopolies while he thought government could make life better for average people thus he started the FDA and several others. He'd get disowned for sure, and Eisenhower? He'd get smeared as a tax and spend liberal because he demanded equal opportunity, less military spending, HUGE increases in education, and actually spending money on American infrastructure. He's another one who better fits in with the modern Democratic platform then the Republican one.
