Where's the pic of him at the medal ceremony with it?

Four posts further up, funny I'm surprised you didn't spot it considering I specifically mentioned it...

What medal ceremony takes place infront of a low quality painted brick wall?

I'm guessing no one noticed or recognized the flag...

Insofar as we are not a ruthless totalitarian police state like China, you are indeed correct...

China is authoritarian, not totalitarian. Don't cheapen the term.

Winston, did you use a spreadsheet for this? Either way, you had some serious free time.

It might make more sense to compare the medal values according to GNP or per capita GNP. Let's face it, it costs money to traiun athletes. Long gone are the days when healthy young men ands women would just show up at tryouts. Most of today's Olympic athletes represent a considerable investment by their country, private organizations, and even their own pockets. Poor countries simply don't have the flash to devote to the training and they generally have fewer people who can afford to take the time.

It would be harder to do, but I'd like to see someone compare medal yields/ amount of money devoted to training. That could be further broken down into types of "investment" - governmental, private and personal.

                        Medal Valuing

I had a post int the medal rankings thread explaining the ridiculousness of both.

                        BTW, medal counts in general

Because it makes your country look bad and you can't take that?

I loved how the US media had to contrive being #1 on the medals table by counting total medals won!

It's much less silly than small countries coming up with medals by population since that WAS to make their country appear better. We have been using total medal count for a while now.

I agree with Strangelove, you can't just compare with population.

This would put New Zealand above Australia, which makes far more sense.
