What medal ceremony takes place infront of a low quality painted brick wall?"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
Ben Kenobi: "That means I'm doing something right. "

Insofar as we are not a ruthless totalitarian police state like China, you are indeed correct...

China is authoritarian, not totalitarian. Don't cheapen the term.
Winston, did you use a spreadsheet for this? Either way, you had some serious free time.

It might make more sense to compare the medal values according to GNP or per capita GNP. Let's face it, it costs money to traiun athletes. Long gone are the days when healthy young men ands women would just show up at tryouts. Most of today's Olympic athletes represent a considerable investment by their country, private organizations, and even their own pockets. Poor countries simply don't have the flash to devote to the training and they generally have fewer people who can afford to take the time.
It would be harder to do, but I'd like to see someone compare medal yields/ amount of money devoted to training. That could be further broken down into types of "investment" - governmental, private and personal."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

Elok, if you're going to be a pedant, at least get it right because otherwise you end up looking like a total dick...
