There is a tendency for people of the left-wing persuasion to often criticize American foreign policy. From the perspective that we should be a shining example to the world, yes our overt involvement in Vietnam, the Iran-Contra affair, the war on drugs, Iraq, etc. and our covert involvement throughout Latin America, does tamper our reputation...

But it should not be forgotten that if we don't do it, nothing is to stop China and Russia from manipulating the whole world. And at least when we do it, we have good intentions and at the very least, a facade of righteousness and sympathy (even if it may be reminiscent to some of the White Man's Burden). Russia will never even give you that benefit.

I hope that for all their complaints and protests that they know, in the back of their minds, that the USA messing around in a country is generally better than the Russian Federation or China messing around, especially for the citizens of the aforementioned country.

You know what I find interesting?
There's a lot of old-ish American movies and comic books where the citizens of the Soviet Union are routinely dehumanized and massacred by American superheroes.
I can't think of a single one doing the opposite. Granted, we did not have comic books or men who wore capes and tights in the Soviet Union, but we had a lot of books and movies for children. Spies and tycoons were probably the most dehumanized characters, but common citizens and common soldiers were always portrayed as very similar to us.

Now you can see the fruits of this nazi education.
