As the unions were weakened by apathy and by relentless corporate propaganda, the rich came in and skimmed off all the extra profits for themselves. Trickle-down economics was a trick!

What it says here is that you can't be fired for forming an union.
IIRC (from publicized cases), if a store closes and it's shown it's because of the union, then you can argue that it's a disguised dismissal and get a compensation.

Interesting (though unsurprising) that it's way easier to read French that uses big words than small ones. Practically everything is a cognate.

Outsourcing is what has killed unions' leverage.
Unions are no longer the only source of labor.
They refuse to realize this reality and won't budge.
Until they recognize this new reality, corporations and unions will suffer greatly.

Thats why I'm at the point of becoming protectionist. All our jobs are going overseas and taking the tax base with it. At a time when our trade deficit is so huge and our tax negative is enormous it seems a solution for both. Even though that would drive taxes up for the consumer in the short term, in the long term successful unions could raise wages to offset this. On the trade front, what do we sell but food and airplanes and weapons? People still have to eat worldwide and world population is soaring so food will still sell, they don't have to buy our airplanes but we can, and people want our arms because they're the best.

Our lifestyle cannot be sustained. It is impossible to maintain these deficits forever and the bill will come due eventually so we need to stop buying so much stuff overseas and start making it at home. That will be good for the unions so it will be good for the workers and the nation.

People buy the stuff from overseas because it's cheaper.

Not to far back there was a trend of BUY AMERICAN stores that only sold goods made in America. They were a little more expensive but figured patriotism would make them profitable. Look around. How many of those stores do you see still around. '0'

If union workers were more willing to make some concessions, maybe Detroit wouldn't be turning into a ghost down. Please don't think that I'm not holding the management teams responsible also. They did their share of damage also.

Controls on imports that drive up their prices is what we need. That would level the playing field for American workers. I heard a story once about the Japanese controls on car imports. The Japanese would completely disassemble every imported car to make sure it met specifiations, at the importers expense...

If we did that with toasters and CD players etc etc, it couldn't be called a tarriff, and it would drive up prices for foriegn stuff and employ American workers who pay American taxes. In the short run imports would fall off because an American company would start making toasters that didn't have to be taken apart. The workers getting good union wages would pay more taxes and you and I could sleep at night in our retirement Rah.

The problem is foriegn lobbyists pay campaign donations and get the representation we need.

No need to worry, since the dollar is falling so fast which is raising the price of gas. Combined eventually foriegn products won't be that much cheaper. Our standard of living will have to fall a bit farther.

Management thinks our standard of living needs to fall further?

It doesn't need to but it's going to. Our cheap energy days are over. So unless we feel like taking over some oil rich country and actually take their oil, our standard of living will fall to pay for our lack of vision.

You should unionize third world countries.

World wide unions would solve a lot of problems.
Not that it could ever happen.

Please check box 1 or box number 2

                          1. I think unions suck and we shouldn't have one.

                          2. I think we should be shot.

Strictly speaking, the dollar has reversed the falling trend significantly recently...
