Ok, send the vowel specialists. Two can play that game.

I guess Georgia shouldn't have attacked South Ossetia, huh?
That's a never ending argument. One might argue that Georgia is a sovereign nation and that Russia has no right to interfere. In fact that's true. Only United Nations should be allowed that kind of operations. If individual countries start their business just like that then there's no end to the chaos.
and to counter Serb: If Saakasjvili is a western pet dog, then Russia is merely supporting South-Ossetian separatists because Saakasjvili's policies don't conform with Russian geostrategic interests. Oh yeah it then covers up its interference by saying most of these Ossetians have Russian passports, which Russia gave them without any problems whatsoever. Cheap way of getting involved in the conflict.
Give me one good reason why else Russia should have a say in this if not for geostrategic dominance. And don't give me that bullcrap about Saakasjvili being corrupt. We all know that, and besides the whole region and Russia for that matter is just as corrupt anyways. If a corrupt leader is all it takes for an invasion, there'd be a gazillion wars all over the world right now...

Serb, yup, I got nothing better to do for the next couple hours.
Besides, you recall Hitler's effort to dress up a few dead civilians in Polish uniforms in order to claim the Poles had attacked Germany? Same thing, but funnier.

The Russians got involved in this situation long before Saakasjvili was a name anyone cared about in this region. Why? Probably to ensure that the states that came out of the breakup of the USSR remained weak and divided. As Felch said, its power politics.
The question is, did Saakasjvili bite off more than he could chew this time?

I know that, but ever since the Rose Revolution especially Russia has been sharp and edgy, in particularbecause Saakasjvili doesn't shun aggressive rhetoric towards the Russians.
Did I not say that it was about power? In the end, most of this kind of wars are...
Did Saakasjvili screw it this time? Depends on support from the west I suppose. Might be precarious, because he hasn't been particularly popular due to his undemocratic and repressive measures when confronted with dissidents, and the everlasting and inevitable corruption. At least that's how he is portrayed by Belgian (critical) press. Not sure about the US, as he's an ally and so on.

Unless the Russians fully invade Georgia and head for Tblisi, no outside power is going to come at the Russians, and even if the Russians carried out a full scale invasion of Georgia, the most they would face would be sanctions, which would scare the **** out of investors and send oil prices flying again.
The question is how much bad press and casualties are the Russians willing to take, because those two are the limiting factors for their actions.

That raises an interesting question... could Russia possibly be antagonizing Georgia to try and scare the price of oil back up?
The US press can be counted to be pretty "anti-Russian." After all, CNN"s headline on the issue currently is "Russia Invades Georgia,", which is a headline of questionable accuracy.

Seems I'm the head Russian now on Poly. I guess it's my turn to bear the brunt of your criticism.
1. I don't like the overreaction of the loyalist brown nosers. We need to keep to the "Georgia -- goood, Saakashvili -- baaad" demarcation.
2. From my point of view we haven't done anything abominable yet. Nothing virtuous, but nothing abominable.
a. Yes, we support a separatist movement. How many people support free Tibet?
b. Yes, we do that because we don't like Georgia turning pro-American. Someone didn't like Cuba turning pro-Socialist and still doesn't.
c. Yes, problems in a sovereign country are none of our business. Whose business was Kosovo?
3. Misha has bit off far more than he could handle. First of all, he picked a wrong time. GWB won't send any military aid and we got to the UN Sec Council first.
4. Georgia won't declare a war against us if Misha is sensible. If he's gone bonkers, they'll lose. Most likely, SO will gain more independence now.
