    Back on-topic...

who was the guy that upset so many southerners with crass stereotypes on a NASCAR thread some time back?

Would I be mistaken in thinking it to have been Mr Fun?

The press core is in an uproar. "Did he say "a clown?" "Why a clown?" "Whats the deal with the clown?"

Hitler turns to his aide and says.....

"See, I told you no one cares about the Jews"

      a: Is that bigoted?
b: If so is that bigoted against Jews, Germans, clowns or all of the above?
      c: Is it funny?

My answers are a=no b= no, no, no and no and c=yes

BTW it is much funnier when told in person with a German accent.

      It's really funny.

I have a similarly sick thing that I use at opportune moments. The last time was when some people in my WoW guild were making antisemitic remarks. I told them to knock it off, and when they didn't I said in guild chat:

"Look, I don't think jokes about the holocaust are funny at all. My grandfather died in a concentration camp"

[Cue absolute silence for about 10 seconds in guild chat]

Then I get about half a dozen whispers apologizing, and people in guild chat apologizing and general guilt and a couple of people asking if it is true.

      So then I type"

"Yeah, he fell off a guard tower."

Honestly, I don't mind "bigoted" jokes if they're funny and told well, and told in a fashion that isn't meant to be disparaging. Yes, that requires paying attention to subtle cues in the conversation, but.

I didn't see all of it, but the parts I did see were weird/funny/bizarre.

It's twisted to see the gynecologist jerking to get his hand out, dragging the poor girl along with it, only to have her after a second or two skitter across the floor with fingers falling out.

What would've happened if she wasnt amused by your witticism? Would your innocent joke have become a bigoted joke (consider GT's recent faux pas)?
People I interact/socialize with in my daily life at work, home, or out and about see that I have a regular sense of humor -- hell hasn't froze over.

As for if she would have found it offensive . . .

have you ever seen a lebsian get angry? You don't really want to.

IT all comes down to how they're told. And this is quite the gray area. The intent of the teller. Don Rickles was a perfect example. He insulted everyone and it was never done with malice. He was so good at it that people would almost fight to get into the front row of his shows so he would pick on them. Rickles also made more than enough fun of himself, which really emphasised his intent. "TO BE FUNNY"

But when they're used with the intent to injure and insult a specific group out of hate, that I don't like.
Sometimes you can't always tell so where do you draw the line? It's safest to just say never do it, but Rickles was so funny I'd hate to totally eliminate it.
                              Good points, Rah.
