Generally the Chinese considered Japan to be a land of barbarians...
Tell you what. Read over this article and point me to the part where Japan was occupied by, invaded by, or owed tribute to China...
"Tokyo is not in China" was the statement I commented on. I joked that Tokyo used to be in China - meaning the Japanese government (Tokyo) used to wage war in China, not the other way around as you seem to think. Rather inexplicably since you're conversant on East Asian history.
I sometimes wish people around here would lighten up a bit and at least make an effort to try and discern when a guy is joking and when he's not.

They should stop doing big cities, they should give it to small ****ty ones with lots of land.
And I vote no on Chicago, its transportation is ****. All our kiwi runners will die from the smog.
Sorry, I didn't read the entire article, if it says anywhere that Chicago plans to upgrade its transportation system, then Chicago is ok.be free

A traumatic event of the period was the Mongol invasions of Japan between 1272 and 1281, in which massive Mongol forces with superior naval technology and weaponry attempted a full-scale invasion of the Japanese islands. A famous typhoon referred to as kamikaze, translating as divine wind in Japanese, is credited with devastating both Mongol invasion forces, although some scholars assert that the defensive measures the Japanese built on the island of Kyûshû may have been adequate to repel the invaders. Although the Japanese were successful in stopping the Mongols, the invasion attempt had devastating domestic repercussions, leading to the extinction of the Kamakura shogunate. We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Apparently the remaining cities are ranked across several metrics by the IOC. The current standing is:
1. Tokyo
2. Madrid
3. Chicago
4. Rio de JaneiroApolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

I hope its Chicago (I'll actually go then... first time in Chi-town), but I doubt it'll happen.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I'm interested in what Chicago is going to do with that $27 billion in transportation upgrades and where the money is going to come from.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

If President Obama gets behind it, Chicago has a chance.
I think the prevailing sentiment around here is, if we can get our mass transit system modernized and expanded, the effort is well worth it. As FrostyBoy is so anxious to point out, the system is in desperate need of a major upgrade -- all the more important with today's oil prices.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011
