obviously it's not as complex if you don't want them to be.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

Hell yeah! When I tried pen&paper D&D, it took me a few game evenings to complete some quest. Battles often take a lot of time, and because I was unexperienced, I (and a few others) were often confused about what to do exactly. I know I could do just about everything, but it never struck me what precisely

I think that any responsible person would advise against it. Drinking and driving is not fun. Always keeping the two separate is the way to go.Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”

You'll have more fun if you concentrate on the role-playing part, and less on the rules part.
Make sure your DM isn't a rules lawyer. A good DM will bend the rules if it makes the game more fun.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

There is QuickStart with simplier rules. Additionally, all the additional supplements (+ even the basic rules) only hold if the GM allows them. They are not obviously in (which a lot of GMs should learn).

I prefer the computer games. Try the Baldur's Gate series. The hardcore pen&paper dudes scoff at it, but it's following most of the D&D rules. You get real powerful in the BG2 and ToB(expansion), with very potent items and weapons, so if you're into powerplaying, it's even more worth it. However, the roleplaying alone is gold already.
You could dig up some threads about it in the Other Games section. It was a hot topic in the days Jamski displayed his dazzling prowess by totally pwning the game in each and every way.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Most RPers are guys, there are a decent number of (not very attractive generally) chicks. There are a very few (generally messed up) very attractive chicks.

I played a LOT when I was in college (70s). Almost always played a magic user. I also did my share of DMing. (Still have lots of old maps and first-edition rule books stored away somewhere.) The game is defined by the DM, and having a group of players who can relax and have fun as a group while role-playing. If all goes well, you will end up spend a lot of time playing.
Fun fact: Ming was an AWESOME dungeon master.
I've never played any computer versions.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Rules just complicate things. Hell, the last time I did any RP, all I did was tell the DM what my guy was like. He made stats based on my description. I never saw them.Founder of The Glory of War, CHAMPIONS OF APOLYTON!!!
