    quote:
WASHINGTON – Senator Barack Obama is ending his membership at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, a congregation he has belonged to for about two decades and one that had become a lightening rod in his Democratic presidential bid.
What's a "lightening rod"? Something to make him less black?

        In Soviet Russia...nah.

I predict that this will play just as badly as staying with the church would have, if not more. Much as some Americans dislike a man who goes to a church run by bigots, other Americans dislike it even more when a man ditches said church for plainly political reasons.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Leaving the Church and finally trying to distance himself from Wright? Does this mean that he's now trying to disown the black community to borrow a phrase from his speech on race?

I suggest you go read his speech on race again wherehe tried to minimize those distinctions wrt his Church and Wright. Both of which he's subsequently walked away from.

No. Since Obama made that speech, Wright has gotten more and more political and then that Catholic guy came in and used the pulpit to mock Hillary.

Contrary to Bush, who violated U.S. tax laws by encouraging Churches to preach politics from the pulpit, Obama properly walked away when his Church insisted on doing so.

Note to Democrats. George Bush will not be participating in this election.

So we can't discuss Bush's actions anymore?

Is this like the we can't criticize China anymore because they are hosting the Olympics logic?

You can discuss him all you like. You can rant and rave and do whatever makes your little heart happy. You can make chimp noises and throw banana peals at spectators as they pass by and it will do about as much good as any other talk about Bush. I'm just suggesting that perhaps the Dems should concentrate on McCain and phase out the anti-Bush speeches.

It wasn't just an anti-Bush speech though. It contain unfavorable comments about Bush, yes. But the post was not about him. You're the one whose ranting and raving, making chimp noises and throwing bananas at the mere mention of his name. Perhaps, you'd better take a look at yourself before you say anything further.
