Well afaik it was well known before the so-called "Night of the Long Knives" that Röhm was gay, and Hitler didn't even care about it as long there were no political differences between the two and as long the SA did what he wanted. It's probably true however that the pro Hitler side later overplayed that to justify the killings of the SA leaders (paint them as immorale in that way).
