Look up both armed forces on Wikipedia. I did a side by side comparison in one of Oerdin's previous hahHAH! Chavez threads where he ended up pwning himself (as usual), and I don't feel like doing all that work again.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Facts:
Military spending (2007) Columbia - $8.77 billion Venezuela $1.7 billion
The Colombian military has around 380,000 men between the army, marines and airforce. The army has been mostly U.S trained and has combat experience. The Air Force has 15 French Mirages and 20 Israeli K-Firs. The Venezuelan Army and National Guard have 87,000 men and 25 Russian Sukhois and 20 American F-16 that are mothballed after the U.S refused to provide spare parts.
I have no info on numbers of tanks, armored cars, armored vehicles, or naval assets but given Columbia's much larger military budget i suspect they'll come out on top in every category.
As for Che's fantasy that Venezuela's 87,000 man armed forces will beat the battle hardened (from 40 years of war) and US trained 380,000 Columbia military... Well, Che's always had rose tinted glasses when it comes to Socialist states.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

We don't have to have boots on the ground to be involved. Naval blockade, signals intelligence, subsidized weapons. . . there are a lot of advantages we could lend to the Colombians. We could do the sort of stuff we did for the Brits when they were fighting Argentina.
As far as the spending difference Oerdin cited, I'd wager the Venezuelan figure is a bit higher than 1.7 bln. Probably outdated figures, or somehow deflated. I know there's been a buying spree going on, a lot of Russian equipment. Also, Chavez has allies in the region. I'm guessing that they'd be pretty equally matched without U.S. involvement, but we'd tip the balance.
I wouldn't be surprised if Chavez did support the FARC and ELN, but so far I see no evidence. I'd have to believe the Colombian are telling the truth.John Brown did nothing wrong.

Equador is the only "ally" Chavez has in a position to do anything to Colombia, and they would be more of a burden than a boon military wise.Last edited by Patroklos; May 23, 2008, 10:52."The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights.
