McCain-Romney would actually make me consider my voting options again.

And that's not a good thing (for him).

Haha, there's still plenty more where that came from.

          Um... isn't Romney's exactly like Hillary's basically?

Definitely not. Obama's and Clinton's plans are far more similar than the MA system (Romney backed away from that plan during the primaries) and Clinton's. The MA plan, for instance, doesn't try standardize the health insurance marketplace or create a public insurer.

But Clinton's plan is, of course, well to the right of virtually every OECD country.

                McCain's plan (or lack thereof) > Obama's plan > Romney/Hillarycare

McCain wants to give people fixed tax breaks for health insurance. Thus, encouraging high deductible, low premium insurance where the middle class doesn't get the preventative care that keeps long-term costs down. And not doing anything for the poor. And the rich get another tax break. Yay, McCain.

                  Yep.

I should emphasize, again, that the Clinton (or Obama - who's slightly to the right of her on this issue) plan is well to the right of basically every developed state. It's only socialism using a very silly definition.

Indeed. Maybe it's just me, but personally I find socialism especially scary.

                      I think there's a disconnect here...

Frankly I think we either need to go socialized or go nothing (perhaps improve medicaid + medicare, but nothing more). All of these half-assed solutions are about the worst possible world...

snoopy, the idea behind the Clinton/Obama plans is that the public insurer would naturally become a quasi-monopoly, due to its efficiencies. In other words, it's Medicare for all, but in the most politically acceptable way of getting there.

... Like I said, i'd rather go all the way rather than do it half-assed. Rather than using a poor system that would not improve things adequately (and might make things worse - if not would), and delude ourselves into thinking we are not going for socialized medicine, just decide:

"Do we think that healthcare should be publicly provided to all via taxpayer money, or not?"

Have one big national vote, and if we say "Yes", then socialized medicine; if we say "No", then leave it alone.
