    My bet's on the US.
Tired of their depression and Iran's sabre-rattling, they nuke something in it, and it retaliates by nuking Israel, which nukes every neighbour it has, Pakis nuke India in case no one notices, India nukes Pakistan back.
Dunno if it'll grow into a global NH, but it'll be definitely another holocaust for the juice.

I agree with Arrian. Nukes are not for use. They're mainly political weapons, unless something goes really, I mean reeeaaalllly wrong, but that's too much speculation for me.

              The US or Pakistan.

Israel might well flare up a nuke in self defense, as well as North Korea. But those won't degenerate into a doomsday event (except for the poor sods who'll get those few bombs, obviously).

The US is likely to be increasingly confident in its anti-missile technology, and thus more keen on using nukes as an offensive measure. However, the US has a tendency to overestimate its technology's effectiveness...

Pakistan has a strong nuclear arsenal that might well fall into the hand of crazies, and has a hated neighbour that's stacked up nukes as well... It's difficult to think an all-out nuclear war between Pakistan and India, or between Pakistan and some "crusader" country, will remain constrained.

Your post was the one that wasn't thought out very well.

The question the poll offers is, "who will start the nuclear holocaust?" Your knee-jerk reaction to my post was to implicate that I was directly answering that question. As you now admit, that obviously wasn't what I was referring to. But even if I had been directly answered that question, that response still would have been correct.

Nukes probably won't be who starts a nuclear holocaust. They would need some serious upgrades before they could qualify, and it's unlikely that we'd give them those upgrades.

Sorry, but you fail on all accounts. You admit your reaction was against a meaning that wasn't the obvious meaning, then you even failed to make a valid point against the incorrect interpretation you adopted.

Anybody knows how strong Pakistan's nuclear potential really is? Weren't there reports some time ago that they're lacking money and maintenance to keep it up? (not sure if I remember that correctly)

I guess that I should have specified that this thread was about a hypothetical future nuclear war.

So, hypothetically, if in future there is such a war, who will be the one to start it?

That's why they should use their missiles while they still can take off.
