Well Vetlegion, I would ask you to define what you think of as 'neoconservatism' in terms of political 'beliefs'. How does one contrast neoconservatism with competing ideologies?
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier
You need a picture Che. People don't vote for candidates they have never seen.
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

I'll put one up when I get a decent picture.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Neoconservativism was born of disappointment with leftism by hardline leftists. People who are its creators are smart and well grounded in political theory. As such, they hold an array of nuanced positions I am not well qualified to elaborate on (nor do I claim acquaintance with all of them). You can find details on the internets.
US president is not a theoretician of high calibre but he is an adherent of neoconservative ideas, which have been the justification for much of his foreign policy.
Would you say invasion of Iraq was a common sense thing to do at the time or driven by ideology? I think the latter. Sorry for the threadjack Che, this is my last post in this thread.

As far as I understand it, neoconservatism is more of a foriegn policy ideology, born from former Trotskyists who became disillusioned. The basic jist is to spread Western style democracy around the world, and by force if necessary. It is, basically, a more aggressive Truman Doctrine.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

More of a rehash of Wilson dressed up in more conservative rhetoric.
I think the term has morphed over time. Originally was primarily an anti-communist stance, particularly for reformed liberals. What is now called neoconservatism seems to come from different people and roots and is really more a trial policy within the unipolar world.

Sorry, I meant Wilson... don't know why I said Truman!
